Data-Driven Decisions for Global Living
Country Nomics provides comprehensive, transparent cost-of-living data to help digital nomads, expats, retirees, and anyone considering a move abroad make informed decisions.
Our Mission
We believe that where you live is one of the most impactful financial decisions you can make. A software engineer earning $5,000/month lives very differently in San Francisco versus Chiang Mai. Country Nomics exists to make these comparisons transparent, visual, and actionable.
We're part of the Nomad Blueprint ecosystem, which helps people plan, prepare, and execute their move to a new country with visa guides, tax optimization strategies, and community support.
Data Sources & Methodology
Cost of Living Indices
Our cost of living, rent, groceries, and restaurant indices are compiled from Numbeo's publicly available country-level rankings, cross-referenced with World Bank consumer price data and Expatistan comparisons. All indices are relative to New York City (NYC = 100).
Economic Data
GDP per capita, inflation rates, population, and other macroeconomic indicators are sourced from the World Bank's World Development Indicators database, updated annually. Salary data comes from multiple local and international labor market surveys.
Safety & Healthcare
Safety indices are derived from Numbeo's crime database and the Global Peace Index. Healthcare indices combine Numbeo's healthcare quality metrics with WHO data on healthcare access and outcomes.
Nomad Score
Our proprietary Nomad Score (1-10) is a weighted composite that factors in cost of living (25%), internet speed and reliability (15%), safety (20%), healthcare quality (15%), visa accessibility (10%), and community/coworking infrastructure (15%).
How Indices Work
Cost of Living Index (Excl. Rent): Measures the relative prices of consumer goods including groceries, restaurants, transportation, and utilities. A value of 40 means that country is approximately 60% cheaper than New York City for these items.
Rent Index: Estimates the price of renting apartments compared to New York City. A value of 15 means rent is approximately 85% cheaper than NYC.
Purchasing Power Index: Shows the relative purchasing power in buying goods and services based on the average net salary. Higher is better — it means local salaries go further relative to local costs.
Quality of Life Index: A composite metric considering purchasing power, safety, healthcare, cost of living, property prices, traffic commute times, pollution, and climate.
